Staying Spiritually Grounded In Business
Finding harmony in the material age

"Only weaklings give in to environment. The kingdom of your destiny, and its creator, is yourself." - Paramahansa Yogananda
We’ve recently been studying the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, the profound spiritual guide that challenged people to explore the transformative journey of self-realization.
To this day, his work inspires people to discover their true nature, cultivate spirituality, and find deep fulfillment and peace in everyday life.
Our thought process while soaking in his work always seems to come back to two questions:
“How can we apply these spiritual practices to the world of business?”
“How can we remain spiritually grounded while chasing earthly goals?”
In an effort to incorporate the ancient wisdom of Yogananda into our everyday lives, we created these 6 principles to keep ourselves spiritually grounded in pursuit of our business goals.
Principles to Staying Spiritually Grounded In Business:
Alignment with Values:
Incorporate your spiritual values into your business endeavors. Reflect on your core principles and ensure that your business practices align with them.
If you hate what you do on a day to day basis. Do something else.
If you don’t have balance in who you are and what you do with your time, you will never find happiness. This alignment will bring a sense of integrity and authenticity to your work.
Mindful Decision Making:
Practice mindfulness in your decision-making process. Take the time to consider the impact of your choices on others, your environment, your time, and your own well-being.
Put conscious thought into everything you do, and ask yourself, “Is this task the highest use of my time and effort? Or I am I getting lost in the day to day shuffle? Will this decision help me reach my goals or is it a distraction?”
Strive for ethical and conscious decision making that reflects your spiritual beliefs. Put meaningful thought into your day to day habits and try to question your own actions when you find yourself running on autopilot.
Balance Material and Spiritual Wealth:
Recognize that success in business doesn't have to be solely measured by material wealth. Strive for a balanced approach that values both material and spiritual well-being.
Money will only solve your money problems.
Seek fulfillment in meaningful work, positive relationships, and personal growth, alongside financial success.
Recognize that every thought, word, action that you put out into the world creates a ripple effect on the environment around you.
That brings us to our next principle…
Service-Oriented Approach:
Embrace a service-oriented mindset in your business. Don’t focus on personal gain.
Laser in on how your products, services, or contributions can genuinely serve others and make a positive impact on the world.
How can you provide more value? How can you solve more problems?
This mindset fosters a sense of purpose and fulfillment. AND your personal gain will come in proportion to the value that you put out.
Self-Care and Inner Growth:
While pursuing your business goals, prioritize self-care and inner growth.
There is no big prize at the end. The journey is the goal. Learn to enjoy the everyday pursuit, because that’s what creates your character.
The word “character” can be traced back to Greek origin. Before it was adopted into the English language, the original meaning was “to sharpen, cut, or engrave.”
Therefore, your character becomes engraved into you over time by your actions.
So learn to accept the lessons in the day to day grind and the challenging speed bumps that are most certainly going to arise. Because they create the person you become. And self development is the most important journey of all.
Dedicate time to nurture your spiritual well-being through practices like meditation, self-reflection, and personal development.
These practices will help you stay grounded, maintain balance, and foster resilience over the long game.
Authentic Relationships:
Cultivate authentic relationships in the business world. Foster connections that go beyond transactional exchanges and build meaningful collaborations based on trust, respect, and shared values.
Avoid working with people that don’t share your goals.
Create your business or work to serve the type of people you enjoy being around.
Surround yourself with coworkers and friends who support your growth and uplift your journey.
At the end of the day, we all have to spend time working in some form or another. Only you have the ability to make sure the ride is enjoyable.
Remember, integrating spirituality into your business journey is about finding harmony between the material and the spiritual aspects of life.
By remaining true to your spiritual values and incorporating them into your business practices, you can create a fulfilling and purpose-driven path that aligns with your inner convictions.
And as a by-product, you might just get really rich.
